Due to heavy rain
Mice infest farms
Several sweet potato farms were attacked by mice in Brgy. Matagbac, Tabaco City in the late months of 2009. Farmers blame the continuous rain for this.
The should-be harvested sweet potatoes in February were harvested earlier to prevent farther infestation.
“Ginabot mi na ta saying man. Bago pa man maubos kan mga kino an mga unod, pig gusi mi na,” a farmer said. (we harvest it now, before the mice damage all the crops)
This is a yearly problem of farmers here as the rainy season starts. The rain causes the mice to leave their homes to search for more foods. Mice control is impossible if rain duration is lengthy. (Sandy Bobier)
